Iron Tsuba
Katchushi Satsuma Mon

Diameter: 7.4 cm x 7.2 cm
Thickness: 4mm at seppa dai 5mm at mimi

Iron Katchuchi tsuba that is slightly oblong maru-gata with a dotte mimi. Later Muromachi to early Edo. This tsuba may not have originally had any piercings. The cross and kozuka-ana were probably added later. The cross is in the mon of the Satsuma clan and that is mostly likely where this tsuba used at some point in its long history. The addition of the sukashi work probably dates close to the time of the tsuba's origin. Nice plate, well made.
