Akasaka Tsuba

NBTHK Hozon

Dimensions: 74 mm x 72 mm Mimi 8 mm

An Akasaka school tate-maru-gata katana tsuba. This is an iron sukashi work in the theme of bamboo and dew drops. Bamboo is renowned for its strength and resilience. As such, it was a favorite theme of many Samurai. It is also often encountered in various kamon. The tsuba is of three plate construction and this can be observed on the mimi. This is the deki of Akasaka. The shape of the ryo-hitsu are clever, also an Akasaka trait. Many granular tekkotsu can be seen. A note of "Takeichi" is recorded on the seppa dai. This translates as "bamboo one", or "number one bamboo". Accompanied by a deluxe kiri-bako, pillow and an NBTHK Hozon paper that attributes it to the Akasaka school. A delightful example in excellent condition.
