Kinko Bull Menuki

Dimensions:
36 mm x 16 mm x 6 mm
35 mm x 17 mm x 5 mm

A shakudo menuki set in the theme of bulls. These have a "wet" black patina and show excellent workmanship. The composition is delightful. The modeling of the bodies are realistic and the carving details show a skilled hand. The eyes are highlighted in gold wash. The oxen or bulls symbolize power and strength. They are also connected to some prominent Taoist figures and several Buddhist deities. This set does not have a paper but they look to be no later than mid Edo and in the Goto style. A quality set that would be great candidate to submit for papers. Accompanied by a kiri-bako. nihontocraft@bellsouth.net
