An Edo period iron Choshu School tsuba by Masanao. It is signed "Choshu Ju Masanao Saku". This example is in good condition and is quite representative of Choshu workmanship. The carving of the leaves is realistically done and gold nunome accents remain. This guard shows typical outlined ryo-hitsu that we often see in Choshu works. It has a strong kaku mini and the patina is in good condition.
