A very large and expertly crafted set of menuki by Goto Tsunemasa. This set bears his mei of Nakni Nakamura Shinsuke. The was his civilian name. Tsunemasa is a highly regarded craftsman and was ranked as Ryoku (良工) by Wakayama. He was a Bushu Ito school tsuba-ko that later studied under Goto Seijo in Edo. He then received permission to use the Goto family name and signed his work "Goto Tsunemasa". He was active around 1800-1850. The set of peacocks is rather magnificent and has fine details and wonderful personality. Accompanied by a custom fitted kiri-bako and a NBTHK Hozon paper.
