A classic example of the Higo Hayashi school. The theme of this tsuba as recorded on the NBTHK paper as: "Six flower petal sukashi with kudzu (Japanese arrow root) and hishi (water chestnut)". The patina of the iron and style of the zogan are key kantei points of this tsuba. The NBTHK attributed this directly to the Hayashi school and awarded it a Tokubetsu Hozon paper. Higo tsuba of this level are highly desirable and, among the Higo schools, Hayashi are not often for sale. It is accompanied by a Tokubetsu Hozon paper and a custom fitted kiri-bako.
