Higo
Iron Tsuba

Dimensions: 81 mm x 78 mm
Thickness: 4.2mm mimi, 4 mm web

A late Edo period squarish maru-gata iron sukashi Higo tsuba. This example features inlay of silver in a floral pattern. The channels for this inlay were cut into the iron and then the silver wire was hammered into the engraved lines. Most of the inlay is intact. The wide mimi of this tsuba was formed by sukidashi bori. Higo shaped ryo-hitsu. A nice katana-sized example of late Higo work.
