Higo Hayashi Fuchi Kashira

NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon

Fuchi dimensions: 39 mm x 23 mm Height 10mm
Kashira dimensions: 33 mm x 17 mm Height 9mm

A Higo Hayashi fuchi kashira. This set is made of shakudo and is in the theme of Cranes. The Crane is a symbol of long life and prosperity. Thus, a popular theme for sword fittings. The Hayashi school began with the shodai Matashichi in the early Edo period (1613-1699) and continued until Meiji times. They were immensely prosperous and supported by the Hosokawa clan. Their work is highly sought after by collectors today. The set shows the half moon shaped kashira, Higo shaped (tapered) fuchi and nanako style that this school is known for. Papered Hayashi fuchi kashira are exceptionally rare and this example boasts a Tokubetsu Hozon NBTHK paper.
