Higo Hayashi Tohachi
肥後林藤八

NBTHK Hozon

Dimensions: 77 mm x 75 mm
Thickness: 5.5mm

A Higo Hayashi tsuba. This fine example has been attributed to Tohachi by the NBTHK. Tohachi was the third generation Matashichi. He was born in 1723 and died on August 1st, 1791. This features the classic Hayashi design of plum blossoms with a "text book" Higo style mimi that is often seen in Tohachi's works. This tsuba has wonderful iron. The feel of the material in one's hands is as much a part of its enjoyment as the perfection of the design. Tohashi's tagane-mei can be observed clearly in this example. Soft edges of the carving and the rich luster of the patina are also key kantei points. This comes with an NBTHK paper attributing it specifically to Hayashi Tohachi. It also has a custom fitted kiri wood box. A great opportunity to own an exceptional Higo tsuba.
