肥後四つ巴鐔
Higo Tsuba

Dimensions: 74 mm x 74 mm Mimi 4 mm

A Higo school maru-gata katana tsuba. This is iron sukashi with gold nunome zogan in the theme of yotsudomoe ("fourfold tomoe"). This motif is seen in the kamon of some Samurai clans and is most likely what this guard represents. This tsuba has not been submitted for papers but it appears to be a Hayashi work. The deep black luster of the iron and style of the nunome zogan are both indicative of Hayashi. Accompanied by a kiri-bako with a pillow. A nice example of Higo in all regards.
