About this sword :   This is an ubu koto katana that has been attributed to the Kaga Fujishima school by the NBTHK. This blade shows strong features of Fujishima workmanship. Especially the hako midare (box shape midare) and strong Bizen flavor, but in nie deki. The sugata of this blade is very graceful. Daito around this nagasa with such an old and elegant sugata are often referred to as a "ko-dachi". Literally, "small tachi". This style of blade saw use in the Kamakura through mid-Muromachi periods. This blade is ubu. A rare opportunity to study koto tachi sugata in its unaltered form. In addition to the early shape, the workmanship of this blade is also typical of early Fujishima rather than late Muromachi works. This blade has many activities to study and it is the kind of blade one can gain solid empirical knowledge from due to its text book Fujishima style, old sugata and ubu nakago.

The hada has some mixing in of masame and some lamination openings here and there, as shown in the photos. For those that admire koto blades, this is often part of an old solider's charm. This sword is in full polish and one can see all the activities in the blade clearly. The polish was done by Nakamura Yutaka. It comes with a nice shira saya. The shira saya has a unique smooth rounded shape with strong medullary rays in the wood. It also comes with a solid silver habaki, storage bag and a NBTHK Hozon paper. A fully, professionally restored ubu koto katana that we are delighted to recommend.
