A large iron sukashi Katchushi tsuba in the theme of mushrooms and monkey toys (kukurizaru). This tsuba shows the charm of old iron and would look at home on a Tensho style koshirae. This has an NBTHK Hozon paper that attributes it as a Katchushi (armor makers) work. Based on the thin plate and evidence of several mountings around the nakago-ana, this is probably an early Edo work rather than a Bakumatsu utsushi. It is difficult to find such a large tsuba in this condition. Ideal for completing a special koshirae or for study.
