About this sword :   This is a very interesting tanto. It is well known that all sword production was prohibited at the end of WWII. This blade was made in 1946. Sword making was banned from 1945 till 1951 when Kurihara was permitted to organize the production of 300 new swords to commemorate the founding of the United Nations. A blade made during this time would have been illegal. Such a work is very rare and this Kazuyoshi is the first sword we seen from this period. This maker is not recorded in books. The name of Kazuyoshi may have been used, due to the sword ban, in lue of the smiths commonly known craft-name. The actual date is recorded on the saya-gaki. The ura of the blade states only "on a lucky day of the first month". The name of the polisher, Oyama Miyozo is also recorded on the saya-gaki as well as the date the blade was made: January 1946. This tanto has no flaws and is in its original polish. It comes with an old sword bag that was most likely made for this blade in 1946. A rare opportunity to own a blade from a period in the history of Nihonto that will remain forever void of available works.
