Kyo Shoami Tsuba

A wonderful Kyo Shoami tsuba in excellent condition. This exact tsuba was published in the book "Ai-Tsuba 100 Shu" by Ogasawara and Hayashi in 1995. The title of the book translates to "100 tsuba that I adore". Its easy to see why this tsuba was selected for such a publication. The motif is that of oars in motion. It coveys a reminder of persistence toward our goals as shown by the diligent effort of the oars. The movement of the oars in the design as well as the shape of the seppa-dai and ryo hitsu are distinctly Kyo. The three dimensional carving of the oars and fine line engraving show the clear influence of Shoami. NTHK Kanteisho
