Kyo Kanagu Shi Menuki

Dimensions: 51 mm x 13 mm x 4.5 mm / 50 mm x 13.5 mm x 4.5 mm

A shakudo menuki with gold iroe in the war horse equipment theme. This is a charming set and it comes with NBTHK Hozon papers attributing it to the Kyo Kanagu Shi school. The origin of this group dates long ago to the tachi shi craftsman that made kinko fittings for tachi from the Heian through Momoyama periods. There were several schools from this line active in Kyoto during the Edo period. These include the Muneta, Isono, Uemura, Inoue, Furukawa and Yasui groups. This set looks to date no later than the mid Edo period and would have been from one of the above schools

Each menuki shows a riding crop. One with kura (saddle) and bridle. The other with abumi (stirrups). Kiku kamon can be seen on the kura and abumi in gold nunome. The detail work of each is refined and most of the gold iroe remains intact. These come with the NBTHK Hozon paper mentioned above and a custom fitted kiri bako. A large and exciting Kyo Kanagu Shi menuki in a martial theme.
