Bushu Ito Masakata
Iron Sukashi
Edo Period

Dimensions: 73 mm x 70 mm
Thickness: 5 mm

A very nice tsuba by Bushu Ito Masakata. He was the 3rd generation main line head of the Bushu Ito school. The design of this tsuba is quite impressive and the mei is important. He was the son of Bushu Ito Masatsune. Masakata passed away in 1774. He is recorded in many books and this is a fun tsuba to study. Signed early Bushu works are hard to find on the market. The four ring theme is very martial. It comes from fighting technique of being aware / skilled at fighting / defending 4 quadrants at once.
