Ko Kinko Baku Menuki

Dimensions: 50 mm x 22 mm x 6 mm
49 mm x 22 mm x 6 mm

This is a set of old kinko menuki in the theme of Baku. See our listings for another similar set. The Baku comes from Chinese folk lore as the devourer of bad dreams. The Baku can be seen in Japanese art starting in the Muromachi period. This set is shakudo with gold wash. The gold wash and some of the carving details show wear from age and use. These have thin walls and no posts remain (both lost long ago). One can see a feeling of Ezo in these but they are probably Ko Kinko. An exciting set to study and submit for shinsa.
