This is a moko-gata Edo period Mino Goto school tsuba. This features the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. The zodiac is a rare theme for this school and a fun one to study. Each animal of the zodiac is rendered in taka-bori. Six on the ura and the other six on the omote. The ground of the tsuba is shakudo nanako. The mimi features taka-bori foliage carving that is very characteristic of this school. This tsuba is a bit dirty and may benefit from cleaning. The current owner decided to offer it as is. Ideal as a fun and interesting example of Mino-goto or to complete a koshirae in the zodaic theme.
