About this sword :   A nice Owari katana by Mushashi no kami Morimichi. This is a well made sword with no kizu and a ubu zaimei nakago. It is accompanied by a 1969 NTHK kanteisho paper. This is charming old paper. It has Kentaro Yoshikawa's seal on it as well as his father, the elder Yoshikawa's seal. This origami was issued in Japan and has the double border Yu Saku stamp on the paper itself and on the envelope. The bade is wonderfully representative of Mino characteristics and a nice example. It is in old polish and one can see spots on the blade that have been cleaned up as well as old stains etc. All the workmanship of the blade can be seen in its current condition.

The koshirae for this sword is very exciting. This is a complete and unaltered original Edo period tachi koshirae. All of the tosogu bear the Taka-no-ha mon. This would have been worn by a Samurai of considerable status for court use and on official occasions. The gold nashiji urushi is in good condition with some splitting and minor lacquer loss to the top and bottom seams. The original ashi are intact as well as fine textiles used to suspend the tachi and protect it from rubbing against the wearer's armor. The tsuba is of three part construction with a thick solid silver center section. The outer plates are decorated with katakiri bori and takanoha mons in yamagane. There are large solid silver takanoha mons on the menuki and on the hangers. The seppa are the original set and are the desirable key fret design. One of the seppa is lightly signed "Yoshinobu" This koshirae is truly breathtaking when displayed. We were overjoyed to see this original koshirae in such a well preserved state. Please see the many photos of this koshirae for full details.

It is so difficult to find a real tachi koshirae from the Edo period in this condition. Considering the quality of the Katana blade and the fact that it is an ubu signed work with a 1969 NTHK paper, we feel quite confident to recommend this wonderful package. This is from an estate and priced to sell.
