A large mokko-gata iron tsuba by Hata Naoaki done in the style of Nobuie. Naoaki was a swordsmith and a student of Jitaro Naokatsu, who was a student of Taikei Naotane. Naoaki is a well-regarded craftsman and ranked at the Koshu level (5th) by Wakayama. This work features a delightful cloud and turtle shell design. The surface has the classic melted finish that Nobuie and utsushi of his work are admired for. There are large iron bones in the mimi as well as linear tekkotsu. This tsuba comes with a NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper. A charming, large, zaimei tsuba.
