Owari Tsuba

Dimensions: 7.45 cm x 7.4 cm Mimi 6mm

A maru-gata iron sukashi tsuba. The theme of this tsuba is bamboo. A simple motif that symbolizes strength and resilience. This looks to be an Owari work from the early Edo period. It has a symmetrically balanced design. It is kaku mimi ko-niku and has tekkotsu. The tekkotsu is both the normal "lumps" in the mimi as well as the granular variety on the mimi and web. The seppa-dai is strongly "dished" on the omote. There is a copper semigane on the left hitsu. It is interesting that the ryo-hitsu are kogai shaped. A strong and charming old tsuba.
