About this sword :   This is a fine naginata by Tsurushige. He came from Settsu province and became active in Nagoya and Narumi(Owari) around Enpo times (1671-1681). He used the mei of "Tsurushige" and "Bishu Ju Tsurushige" . His later works, after Jokyo(1684-1688), are signed Motoshige. The taka-no-ha yasuri shows the Mino origins of Owari shinto as do the togari seen in this hamon. We can also see a flavor of Osaka shinto in this nagainata. This naginata is a bold, wide blade. It is 3.5cm wide in the monouchi. This is a remarkably healthy blade and there are no kizu. This is in old polish with some light surface scratches. This blade comes with a shira-saya. The habaki and fuchi are shakudo. An NBTHK Hozon paper also accompanies this nagainata. The NBTHK added to the paper in parenthesis that this blade was made circa Enpo(1671-1681). NBTHK papers typically only state the mei of a blade or an attribution, so this is a nice addition to the paper. A powerful naginata that is healthy, zaimei, ubu, flawless, one mekugi-ana and has a NBTHK Hozon paper.
