Sho : 7.6 cm x 7.1 cm / Thickness 3 mm at mimi, 5 mm at seppa dai

A daisho tsuba set by Sadatomo. These are shakudo with copper, shibuichi and gold wash copper inlay. Techniques used also include taka-bori and ke-bori work. The theme of this daisho is rocks by the seashore, seaweed and seashells. The workmanship is impressive in all regards. Especially the sculptural quality of the shells are a delight to enjoy. Sadatomo was active in the late Edo period. According to Wakayama, his favorite theme was seashells. This diasho can be appreciated as an ideal example of his work. Both of these tsuba are signed by Sadatomo and include his kao. This daisho is an original matched set. They were both refitted with semigane in the same technique long ago. Also, the pair shows the same color of shakudo, same wear from use and the same mei style. The set is accompanied by an NBTHK Hozon paper. A charming old kiri-bako with pillows is also included. A rare opportunity to own a papered zaimei kinko daisho. nihontocraft@bellsouth.net
