A delightful shakudo nanako tsuba in the theme of chrysanthemums (kiku). The kiku is the Imperial mon (family emblem) of Japan. The skill of the carving shown in this tsuba is quite high as is the material of the shakudo. This looks to be an Umetada school work from the early Edo period based on comparative study. The ana is not original. However, this is part of the history of this tsuba and should be viewed as such. A highly refined work, seldom seen at this price point.
