A large and fine iron sukashi Shoami tsuba in the theme of hozuki (Japanese lantern plant). There are strong linear and granular tekkotsu, especially in the mimi. Please see the close up photos below. The gold nunome is in great condition as is the chocolate brown patina of this guard. This tsuba has been appraised as Hiroshima Shoami. The tekkotsu has led some feelings of Ko-Shoami by other connoisseurs. An excellent tsuba for sure in either case. An old museum acquisition number is recorded on the inner mimi.
This tsuba was published in the 14th Kokusai Tosogu Kai exhibition catalog. The book and page are shown below (book not included). Items featured in the KTK books consist of some of the best tosogu in existence. This tsuba is accompanied by a kiri-bako with a custom made pillow. An exciting opportunity to own a published and high quality Shoami tsuba.
