Deer Theme Kinko Tsuba

Dimensions: 6.5 cm x 5.9 cm Mimi 4 mm

A late Edo period kinko tsuba. This has a copper base with silver wash. The realistic carving of the deer is excellent. This a highly refined work and carefully crafted. The deer is often depicted as the messenger of Jurojin and Fukurokuju. It is also the symbol of the Kasuga Shirne in Nara. A fine example of three dimensional carving and an ideal candidate for shinsa.
