鉄元堂 鍔
Tetsugendo Tsuba

Dimensions: 8.6 cm x 8.6 cm Mimi 5 mm

A very large katana tsuba. This guard is iron sukashi with high relief carving and frequent inlay work. This looks to be Testsugendo school based on comparative study. The figures show many details and touches such as the inlaid staff are impressive. The backs of all of the characters are shown on the ura and the carving is quite sculptural overall. This tsuba dates to the mid Edo Period, circa 1750. Accompanied by a deluxe kiri-bako. This would be an ideal candidate for shinsa. Excellent condition.
