Waki Goto Futakoromono
NTHK Kanteisho

Kogai Dimensions: 21 cm x 13 mm x 5 mm

Kozuka Dimensions: 9.8 cm x 15 mm x 7 mm

A shakudo nanako futakoromono. This set consists of a kozuka and a kogai. This is an original set and it dates to the mid Edo period, crica 1700. These are in the theme of myoga, which is Japanese ginger. The leaves have a wet luster and morning dew is rendered with silver dots. The gold iroe is in great condition. The work sets a mood of elegance and would have been for a formal koshirae. This is accompanied by an NTHK Kanteisho paper that attributes it to the Waki Goto school. This means "Side Goto" which indicates a school with roots in the Goto tradition. The paper also states mid-Edo as the period of production. This comes with a custom fitted kiri-bako and a pillow. A charming work and ideal for comparative study of tosogu.
