Hamon :   Nioi-deki sugu ko-gunome. Ko-nie is mixed in. The nioi-guchi is bright and fine hakekake is mixed in. There are ko-ashi and sunagashi.

Boshi :   Togari with a long return. The boshi is deep. Kinsuji and inazuma are present.

Kitae :   Mokume hada that is tightly forged and admirably clear.

About this sword :   A fine Bizen Sukesada tanto. Dated 1565 and ubu. This is a wide and healthy example with gorgeous jigane. This bears the "koku ju" mei that is often seen in finer works of late Muromachi Bizen. This tanto is in full Japanese polish and has no kizu. The koshirae is old and very charming. It has a fine samaegawa say and black lacquered tsuka. Please note the battle damage to the wari-kogai and tsuka. This sword has a story to tell and this adds to our appreciation of the work. Registration Yamaguchi No.13437 February 28, 1961. NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon 2020.

The health of this sword and the skill of its workmanship are impressive and the koshirae brings an air of quiet sophistication. A joy to study and a delight to recommend.
