A charming set of Kyo Kinko menuki in the theme of two gods of good fortune. The two gods depicted here are Fukurokuju and Hotei. Fukurokuju is the god of wisdom, luck, longevity, wealth and happiness. He is shown here with his cane in one hand and his scroll of knowledge in the other. Hotei is the god of fortune, guardian of children and the god of popularity. He is shown here with his bag that holds bounty for those who believe in his virtues.
This set dates to the early Edo period. It is shakudo with gold and sliver nunome. The quality and condition of these menuki are excellent. Awarded a Tokubetsu Hozon paper by the NBTHK and accompanied by a custom fitted kiri-bako.
