About this sword :   A koto tanto by the 4th generation Kyoto Nobukuni. This smith was active around Oei (1394-1428). He is known as Saemon-no-jo Nobukuni and is a highly ranked smith. He is Jo Saku in Fujishiro and ranked at 8 million yen in the Tokotaikan. The “kuni” that remains on the nakago of this blade can be narrowed down to the 4th generation based on the 3 horizontal stokes placed in the right area of inner kanji. The NTHK attributed this to Den Saemon-no-jo Nonukuni specifically. The sword has some kitae that includes masaware but there are no kizu or problems. The quality of the blade is high. The polish is old, but the blade can be fully appreciated as it is. There is an old shira-saya with ivory inlay. An Edo period habaki with the Satsuma Mon accompanies this work. There is also a NTHK 75 point paper, work sheet and a storage bag. Saemon-no-jo Nobukuni is appreciated along with the Oei San Saku of Bizen as a representative smith of the Oei period. A wonderful opportunity to own a Jo Saku zaimei tanto and priced attractively by the consignee.
