About this sword :   A kissaki-moroha-zukuri tanto by Bizen Tadamitsu with a fine late Edo period koshirae by Hidechika. This tanto is ubu and siged "Bishu Osafune Tadamitsu". The Tadamitsu line of smiths prospered in the mid-late Muromachi period. Circa 1500. There are over 20 Bizen Tadamitsu smiths recorded as working during around that time. The deki is consistent with the Tadamitsu school's work-style. The blade has no kizu and is healthy. The geometry of the blade is excellent and the horimono is crisp and skillfully done. There are some areas of inactive rust and light rubs on the polish as shown in the photos.

The toppei-zukuri koshirae is a fine isskau example with all matching silver fittings by Hidechika. He is listed by Wakayama as being a student of Sonabe Yoshihide and active in the late Edo period. The tsuba and fuchi are both zaimei and with kao. The quality of the workmanship is excellent. The carving of the clouds, layout of the design elements and use of negative space are harmonious and delightful. This has its original wari-kogai and kozuka. The saya has a removable liner as shown in the photos. A gorgeous example and in excellent condition. One silver part needs re-affixed and one seppa is missing. (see photo).

This has not been submitted for shinsa and is priced accordingly by the owner.
